Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced that the Catskill Center for Conservation and Development in Ulster County will receive a $7,600 grant from the state.
The Center will use this funding to develop and implement a habitat management plan designed to maximize grassland habitat.
Funding for the grant was generated from the sale of the Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Habitat Access Stamps, a program which the state began in 2004.
"Proceeds from the sale of the stamps are deposited in a special ‘Habitat Account’ within the Conservation Fund and are used specifically for projects like this," said Senator Larkin.
Applications were submitted by municipalities and not-for-profit organizations for small-scale projects that benefit the management of and access to fish and wildlife resources throughout New York State. The Catskill Center for Conservation and Development in Ulster County was selected from among 41 proposals received by DEC.
The Habitat Access Stamp is available to anyone for $5 from any sporting license issuing agent. The stamp is not required to hunt, fish or trap, nor is it necessary to purchase a sporting license in order to buy a habitat stamp.
