Larkin Supports Bill To Punish Animal Cruelty
William J. Larkin Jr.
January 21, 2007
Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today cosponsored legislation in the New York State Senate that would make it a Class E felony for anyone convicted of cruelty to ten or more animals at the same time.
"The abuse or neglect of any animal is a despicable crime," said Senator Larkin. "As horrible as that is, abusing multiple animals is even worse. This bill calls for stronger punishment of anyone who would commit such reprehensible acts. Hopefully, by making this crime a class E felony, we will not only punish the offenders, but also deter those who may potentially treat animals this way."
A Class E felony carries a fine of up to $5,000 and/or a prison sentence of up to 1 - 4.3 years.
