Larkin Supports Bill To Punish Computer Crimes Against Children

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) announced the New York State Senate today passed legislation to combat computer crimes against children. The bill (S.1921) establishes a felony offense, Computer Sex Crime, when an offender uses a computer to facilitate and commit a sex crime against a child.

"Although children today are more computer savvy than ever before, this does not mean that they are any less vulnerable to sexual predators who would take advantage of them through the computer," said Senator Larkin. "The bill we passed today will punish pornographers and other abusers who use computer technology to victimize and exploit young children."

Under current law, a sex crime against a child includes the commission or attempted commission of sexual conduct, or the use or promotion of a sexual performance involving a child under 17 years old.

The bill was sent to the Assembly.
