Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced that the Kingston Library has been awarded $24,219 in public library construction funds. The grant will enable the library to replace all existing windows and window frames.

The grant funds are from a one-time allocation of $14 million in capital funds for public library construction provided by the New York State Legislature in the 2006-2007 State Budget.

Senator Larkin said that many of the state’s public libraries are in urgent need of renovation and upgrading. More than 40% of the over 1,000 public libraries in New York State are over 60 years old. Another 30% are more than 30 years old.

"Many public libraries need major repairs and upgrades," said Senator Larkin. "Public library construction grants help local libraries and library systems renovate their facilities and meet the needs of the community. This funding will help the Kingston Library to maintain and preserve the building and save important resources for local taxpayers."
