Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) has obtained state grants for two local organizations that serve young people in Kingston.
The senator announced today that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ulster County, Inc. has been awarded $20,000 so that the organization can keep up with the demands of a growing program and continue to match young people in need with caring adults who will serve as mentors in these children’s lives.
The Children’s Home of Kingston has received $25,000 for the refurbishing of four cottages on its campus. The funding will help support the Home’s current capital campaign to enhance the lighting of the cottages, replace underground fuel storage tanks with gas heating and make improvements to most of the bedrooms in the cottages.
In addition, Senator Larkin has secured a $3,000 grant for the Rip Van Winkle Council, Boy Scouts of America in Kingston so that the organization can purchase a portable Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to have on hand during camping trips in remote areas.
"I am very pleased to have been able to advocate for this funding in the state budget this year," said Senator Larkin. "I fully support these wonderful groups and all the work they do with our youth in Ulster County. The funding for these projects will truly impact in the lives of children."
