August 30, 2007

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today reminded Basic STAR recipients of Orange and Ulster Counties that they must apply to the New York State Department of Taxation & Finance in order to receive their STAR property tax rebate check for the 2007-08 school tax year.

The Tax Department will be mailing application packets to Basic STAR homeowners in Ulster County the week of September 10th; and Orange County residents will start receiving their packets the week of September 17th.

Basic STAR recipients can also apply online through the Tax Department’s website after receiving the application in the mail. The application will contain a "STAR code" you must use if you wish to apply online.

Anyone with questions about the STAR property tax rebate program can call the STAR hotline at: 1-877-678-2769; or go to the Department’s website at www.tax.state.ny.us.

Remember, the deadline for filing for the Basic STAR rebate is November 30, 2007.

Homeowners who fail to apply by November 30, 2007 will forfeit their rebate check.

Seniors 65 years or older who are already receiving their Enhanced STAR property tax break will receive their rebate check automatically and do not need to file an application.

Enhanced rebate checks will be mailed out to seniors beginning the week of September 3rd for both Orange and Ulster County residents.
