Padavan Honors Local Students in Statewide Environment Contest

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that four local grade and middle school students have been awarded with statewide recognition for their school projects aimed at increasing awareness and proposing solutions to environmental challenges.

The students were honored for their work in the state Senate’s 17th Annual I*MA*GREEN*NATION competition.

During an event in Albany, Senator Padavan honored fourth grader Sam Kaufman, from PS 209 in Whitestone, for placing third place in the audio-visual division. Other winners from schools in the 11th Senate District include Jaiheed Fair, from the Lowell School, who placed second in the grade 6-8 arts and craft division III. Also placing second in the arts and crafts division IV was Jasmine Collado from the Lowell School. Brianna Torres, from the Lowell School, received honorable mention in the arts and crafts division IV.

 “I am very impressed with the work done by all the students who took part in the I*MA*GREEN*NATION competition,” Padavan said. “Their work is remarkable and it will help increase awareness among our children about what they can do to protect our environment. I am proud to recognize Sam, Jaiheed, Jasmine, Brianna and all the youngsters for their achievements and hard work in this contest. They have made their schools, families and communities very proud.”

 I*MA*GREEN*NATION provides grade and middle school students the opportunity to present their ideas and solutions to environmental problems. Presentations included way to combat global warming, reduce solid waste and fostering recycling in our communities.
