New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) this week honored Sarah Harris as a 2008 recipient of the New York State Senate Achiever’s Award. This prestigious award recognizes an individual’s ability to overcome personal physical challenges and honors their accomplishments on behalf of their community.
“The New York State Senate Achiever’s Award is bestowed upon individuals who rise above the difficulties posed by their disabilities and help make our communities a better place,” Padavan said. “Ms. Harris is a shining example of what this prestigious award stands for. Sarah is an amazing young woman who has volunteered her time to help our veteran’s and those in need throughout our community. She is a true inspiration to me and our entire community. I am honored and proud to recognize Sarah Harris as a 2008 New York Senate Achievers Award honoree.”
Ms. Harris, a Queens Village native, is a social, friendly and energetic young woman with a bright smile. Ms. Harris has been a volunteer for local community organizations for a number of years through the Queens Centers for Progress Day Habilitation Program. She has been an active volunteer at the St. Albans Veterans’ Administration canteen by assisting the staff in various activities. Ms. Harris also volunteers her time at the Queens Jewish Community Council Food Pantry and the Catholic Charities Hillcrest Senior Center.
Sarah Harris was honored in a special ceremony on Tuesday May 6th, at the State Capitol in Albany and was presented with the Achiever’s Award.
