Klein Applauds MySpace And AG’s Efforts To Protect Children From Sexual Predators

 NEW YORK-Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), an outspoken advocate of increased measures to protect children from sexual predators, applauded the partnership announced today by Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, several other attorneys general, and MySpace to better protect children from sexual predators. Under the agreement, MySpace, with support from the attorneys general, will create and lead an Internet Safety Technical Task Force to explore and develop age and identity verification tools for social networking web sites. MySpace will invite other social networking sites, age and identify verification experts, child protection groups and technology companies to participate in the task force.

e-mail notification when a sex offender has been entered, or his or her information updated, in the subdirectory of sex offenders in a geographic area specified by the resident on the registration form. The department would furnish the service at no charge to the resident and the e-mail update may be for specific counties or zip codes.
