Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) has successfully secured additional state funding for the Newburgh City School District.
"I am pleased to have been able to negotiate this funding for the Newburgh City School District," said Senator Larkin. "These grants will help support the educational goals of the district and serve the students well."
Newburgh Free Academy has received $5,000 toward the operational costs of the school’s AARTS Academy which provides remediation in reading, writing, grammar, note taking and host visiting artists for additional learning experiences.
South Junior High School has received $7,000 for costs associated with the Engineering/Technology mentorship program through the West Point Military Academy which pairs seventh graders with cadets so they can experience hands-on engineering classes and lab work.
Heritage Junior High School has been awarded $10,000 for the purchase of Smart Boards for the school’s math classrooms. Senator Larkin’s prior support for the acquisition of Smart Boards for the school has been credited with the most recent math assessment scores improving by 22%.
Senator Larkin has also obtained $20,000 for the New Windsor School for its Response to Instruction (RtI) program which provides additional training for teachers in speech and language intervention services for early elementary school students.
Newburgh Teachers’ Association has been awarded $40,000 for the operational costs of its NTA School Buddy and Academic Assistance program at Temple Hill Academy.
