Buffalo, NY- Today, September 23, 2009, New York State Senator Antoine M. Thompson (D-Parts of Erie & Niagara Counties) held a press conference and check presentation with Mayor Byron Brown. He announced $200,000 in funding for the North Buffalo Ice Rink. The press conference was held 10:00 am at the North Buffalo Ice Rink at 158 Tacoma Avenue in Buffalo.
“I am excited that I was able to secure funding for the North Buffalo Ice Rink,” said Senator Thompson. “These improvements will make the facility safer for skaters and spectators and also make the building more energy efficient.”
The funding breakdown is as follows: $40,000.00 for the insulation of new safety glass at visitor and guest viewing area’s on the second floor mezzanine level with appropriate safety railing included, $10,000.00 for energy efficient gas furnaces for a number of locker room areas, $50,000.00 for chiller and electrical upgrades to further enhance efficiencies in the operations of the ice rink complex, $25,000.00 to repaint and resurfacing various locations throughout the building, $20,000.00 to install a new garage door for zamboni and various other equipment storage, along with all new electrical and safety devices, $55,000.00 to modernize automatic controls for improved lighting, air quality, equipment efficiency, and a heat recovery system for keeping ice conditions up to standards.
