Senator Thompson Awards $40,000 To WNY Block Clubs. " Funding to aid in local crime prevention initiatives."

Buffalo, NY - On Thursday, July 30, 2009, New York State Senator Antoine M. Thompson (D- Parts of Erie & Niagara Counties) presented a check to the Buffalo & Erie County Board of Block Clubs for $25,000. The Niagara Falls Block Club Council was presented with a $15,000 check earlier in the week. The check presentation comes a week before the annual National Night Out festivities. The presentation took place at 7:00 pm at the Belmont Shelter, located at 1195 Main Street in Buffalo.
“I am very pleased to be able to provide this funding to Western New York block clubs,” said Senator Thompson. “As we continue to fight back against the violence that continues to affect our communities, we must make sure that residents and homeowners are properly educated and have ample resources”
The funding comes from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and will be used for capital improvements such as purchasing block club signage, lawn lighting, and walkie-talkie’s. Also, a variety of activities that block clubs participate in throughout the year; crime prevention awareness workshops, disaster preparedness training, cook outs, block parties and more.
