Money to be used to upgrade fuel pumps used by local school district, ambulance, & fire department
State Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) was joined by Patchogue Village Mayor Paul Pontieri as he announced a major grant to benefit Patchogue Village. Sen. Foley has been successful in securing $300,000 to upgrade fuel pumps that are vital in providing basic services for local residents.
The Village of Patchogue had been mandated by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to upgrade its fuel pumps as they were no longer in compliance with DEC’s safety regulations . With a price tag of $300,000, the Village faced having to raise revenue and delay vital services.
The $300,000 grant secured by Foley will be welcome news for the Patchogue-Medford School District as well as the local ambulance and fire department, as all three utilize the fuel pumps for their services. The grant will make the pumps environmentally secure, save Patchogue Village money, and avoid painful delays to crucial services.
“I am extremely pleased to announce this major funding for Patchogue Village as it will go directly towards helping local residents,” said Foley, who has represented the Patchogue Village community from his days as Suffolk County legislator, Town of Brookhaven Supervisor, and now as state senator. “As our local governments struggle to make ends meet, it’s important to provide them with resources to prevent raising local taxes. That’s exactly what this grant does.
“I am confident the grant will directly help the local school district, fire department, and ambulance service, and with it, all of Patchogue Village,” said Foley, who serves on the Senate Economic Development Committee.
Patchogue Village Mayor Paul Pontieri lauded Foley for securing the grant and pledged to continue working with him to deliver for local communities. “The $300,000 grant to upgrade fuel services in Patchogue Village is yet another example of Senator Foley addressing the real needs of our constituents,” said Pontieri. “It reaffirms Senator Foley’s commitment to reducing taxes through shared services. I am truly pleased to once again partner with him and sustain the quality of services offered to residents of Patchogue Village and all of Suffolk County.”
According to the DEC, Patchogue Village was obligated to upgrade its fuel pumps by 2010; a target the Village will be able to meet thanks to the grant secured by Foley. The grant will be administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY).
