Timberline Park to become recreational destination for local residents
State Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) and Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan announced the awarding of a major grant which will be utilized by the Town for the construction of a spray park at Timberline Park in Brentwood.
“I am proud to announce that I have been able to bring this grant funding home to Long Island,” said Senator Foley. “This funding will provide the children and families of Brentwood and Central Islip with the kind of top-of-the-line recreational facility they deserve. I look forward to the day when we can gather here to announce the opening of the facility.”
The grant totaling $500,000, was secured by Senator Foley through the State Dormitory Authority. It represents one of the largest grants for park improvements ever delivered to Brentwood. The improvements will bring positive development in an area that has been a target of violence and gang activity.
“This project represents the kind of State involvement in local issues that we need to see more of,” said Senator Foley. “By investing State monies in our neighborhoods, we can be part of the solution to the problems and concerns of our residents. We can begin improving the quality of life in our State by working to upgrade our local parks and recreational facilities so that our residents have safe spaces for relaxation and enjoyment.”
“This spray park will serve as a great location for our constituents to cool off in the heat and admire as a Brentwood landmark in cold weather. I commend Senator Foley for securing the funds that are going to make the spray park possible, and for his commitment to the Brentwood community,” said Supervisor Nolan.
Currently, Timberline Park is home to a Town swimming facility. The Town has proposed several layouts for the spray park. The final layout will be chosen by students from local schools, providing them an opportunity to take an active role in their community.
