Patchogue Village to receive $2.47 million in state money
Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) and Patchogue Village Mayor Paul Pontieri announced a major state grant for Patchogue Village aimed at boosting revitalization efforts in the Village. Patchogue Village has been awarded $2.47 million as part of the Restore New York Program which is helping uplift communities throughout the state.
The funding will target a transit oriented urban renewal project located at 31 West Main Street in Patchogue. The rehabilitation of 31 West Main Street includes 9,500 sq. ft. of retail space and approximately 17,000 sq. ft. of office space. Once completed, the facility will bring in businesses and residents to Patchogue village, helping the Village continue to serve as a commercial and cultural hub in Suffolk County.
During the construction phase of the project there will be at least 55 construction jobs generating some $4.3 million in income for employees at the project. In addition, once the project is completed it is expected to generate more than 75 permanent jobs.
“This funding is a critical component of the economic revitalization of Patchogue Village,” said Foley, who was instrumental in securing the funding. “The grant will not only uplift our local economy – creating much needed jobs – it will also help Patchogue Village continue to be a destination for businesses and families from across Long Island.”
The project will be built upon the highest energy efficiency standards, as it has been registered by the U.S Green Council. It will also utilize existing water, sewer, and parking infrastructure.
Mayor Pontieri hailed the grant as a major development for Patchogue Village. “A grant of this magnitude is critical for the ongoing economic revitalization of Patchogue Village,” said Pontieri. “It’s a great example of the results that can come about when local and state governments partner up for the betterment of our constituents. This project is further evidence of Sen. Foley’s commitment to deliver for our Suffolk County. I am pleased to work with both Sen. Foley and Gov. Paterson to build on the success of this project and move our community forward.”
Governor David A. Paterson said, "In difficult economic times, when we face significant budgetary pressures, it is more important than ever to ensure that our investments of public funds achieve the highest possible return for New York's taxpayers. The allocation of $2,471,000 to the Village of Patchogue from the Restore-NY program represents precisely such a wise investment. Mayor Paul Pontieri has demonstrated his dedication to the revitalization of the Village and his commitment to ensure that all who live within its borders share in the benefits. Senator Brian X. Foley has been tireless in his advocacy for Patchogue, and Assemblymember Patricia Eddington, as well, has been effective in her support of Mayor Pontieri's efforts. These efforts will not only enhance the Village of Patchogue, but yield economic benefits for Suffolk County and Long Island as a whole."
