Senator Fuschillo to Sponsor Breast Cancer Screening Program at Wantagh Library

Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.

November 9, 2009

State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) today announced that he will be sponsoring a breast cancer screening program in Wantagh on Thursday, December 10th.

The screenings will be held from 8:30 am to 2:10 pm at the Wantagh Library, which is located at 3285 Park Avenue in Wantagh. On-site nurses and technicians from the Nassau Health Care Corporation will provide a mammography, a clinical breast examination and instructions for self examination. Patients and their physicians will be notified of the exam results.

The Nassau Health Care Corporation’s guidelines for the program are as follows:

      * The program is open to all Nassau County women ages 40 and over.

      * Women covered by insurance, Medicaid or Medicare will have their carrier billed and must bring their information card to the screening. Nassau Health Care Corporation policy now requires patients to be responsible for any co-pays charged by their carrier.

       * Women ages 50 and older without health insurance will not incur any out-of-pocket costs.

       * Nassau Health Care Corporation will contact uninsured women under the age of 50 prior to their appointment to participate in a financial clearance program to see if they are eligible for Medicaid and/or other government assistance programs.

Appointments are necessary and will be scheduled on first-come, first-served basis. Women who would like to take advantage of the screening program should call Senator Fuschillo’s office at (516) 882-0630 to make an appointment.
