Senator Johnson Announces Emergency Preparedness Classes

Senator Craig M. Johnson, (D-Nassau), and the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management announce free basic training classes for volunteers who want to join to the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
More than 1,000 Nassau County residents are already members of the CERT program, which educates people about disaster preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response and recovery skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
The program starts with Basic Training and builds your knowledge through ongoing training classes and hands-on exercises.
The next course starts Thursday, February 4, 2010. The course is three hours per class for eight nights, once a week.
Class 1: Thursday, February 4, class 1- What is CERT, Intro to ICS & CERT Organization
Class 2: Thursday, February 11, class 2 - Disaster Medical Operations I
Class 3: Thursday, February 18, class 3 - Light Search & Rescue
Class 4: Thursday, February 25, class 4 - Terrorism, Disaster Psychology
Class 5: Thursday, March 4, class 5 - Fire suppression and Part I Table Top Exercise
Class 6: Thursday, March 11, class 6 - Shelter Operations & Part II Table Top
Class 7: Thursday, March 18, class 7 - Disaster Medical Operations II
Class 8: Thursday, March 25, class 8 - Community Outreach, Radio Ops & Graduation
Start Time: Doors open at 6:30 PM, instruction starts promptly at 7:00 ending at 10:00.
Location: Nassau Community College – Old Firehouse Gallery, 1 Education Dr, Garden City, NY 11530 (next to Fireman’s Museum and IMAX Theater)
