Over 100 Elected Officials, Tenants, Workers, and Advocates Organize for Fully Funded Public Housing

SOUND Housing Campaign Releases Letter to Governor Paterson Calling For Full NYCHA Funding in 2010 Budget

New York, NY – State Senator Daniel Squadron, Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh, and Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES) joined with other city, state, and federal elected officials; public housing residents; NYCHA employees; and housing advocates today in a rally at City Hall to call on the State and City to fully fund New York City public housing.  The coalition, called the Save Our Underfunded NYCHA Developments (SOUND) Housing Campaign, released a letter to Governor Paterson calling for full funding in the 2010 budget.

The SOUND Housing Campaign, launched in July and supported by over 100 elected officials and housing advocates across New York, calls on the State and City to:

•       Fully fund $64 million for State-built developments;
•       Fully fund $30 million for City-built developments;
•       Stop requiring NYCHA to pay more than $70 million for police and sanitation services; and
•       Invest $100 million from the Federal stimulus package in weatherization of NYCHA developments.
