Senator Urges Local Groups to Submit Community Events
Public Event Listing Next Step in Senator Squadron's Multimedia Outreach
New York, NY--State Senator Daniel Squadron announced his "25th Senate District Community Calendar" today on his web site squadron.nysenate.gov, offering a new venue constituents can visit to find out about events in the district and opportunities to participate in community life.
"The 25th Senate District is rich in culture and community activity. Around here, residents should never be bored--as long as they know where to look. The calendar is still a work in progress, and I hope more people will send me events to post online," said State Senator Daniel Squadron.
Senator Squadron has posted times and locations for greenmarkets in Brooklyn and Manhattan, recreational events, community meetings and even "fitness gatherings" like "Waterfront Workout With the Fitness Guru."
The Community Calendar is one component of a multimedia outreach plan designed to make government more accessible to the community. Senator Squadron will also be hosting a series of conference calls about legislative and community issues, open to the public; sponsored the first-ever 25th Senate District Community Convention, which drew more than 400 constituents; and launched a mobile district office, bringing constituent services to greenmarkets, street corners and community events throughout the district.
"In order to make government truly accessible to the people we serve, we have to think creatively about how to engage community members in their daily lives. This calendar can provide one more point of connection between my office and the life of the community," Senator Squadron said.
Community organizations and neighborhood residents who would like to post events should e-mail information, including time, date, location, a brief description and any relevant web links, to Senator Squadron at info@danielsquadron.org.
