State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) was the recipient of the New York State Snowmobile Association’s (NYSSA) Legislator of the Year Award during the association’s annual meeting and forum April 18.
“I am honored to be chosen New York State Snowmobile Association’s Legislator of the Year,” Senator Valesky, Vice President Pro-Tempore of the New York State Senate, said. “Snowmobiling is an important part of life in Upstate New York; in addition to recreational benefits, the industry also provides important economic benefits to Upstate New York.”
Senator Valesky was chosen in part because of his efforts to protect the snowmobile trail fund from being swept into the state’s general fund.
“Without the support of Senator Valesky, the sweep of $1 million from the snowmobile trail fund would have left our member clubs high and dry,” Mike Fischer, NYSSA president, said. “Restoring those funds was critical to snowmobile trail safety in the past season and for years to come,” he added.
