New York State Senator Eric Adams will host Governor David Paterson at a visit to celebrate Sukkot at the Jewish Children’s Museum
New York State Senator Eric Adams will host Governor David Paterson, who will travel from Albany to celebrate the holiday of Sukkot at the Jewish Children’s Museum, 792 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn. The festivities will take place on Wednesday, October 7, from 6PM to 7PM.
The holiday of Sukkot commemorates G-d’s benevolence towards the Jews during their forty year exile in the Sinai Desert, the period between their escape from slavery in Egypt and their entrance into the Holy Land of Israel. G-d gave the Jews temporary shelter to protect them from peril in the desert, and His kindness is memorialized by dwelling in a temporary construction, or Sukkah. The Sukkah is a “hut” covered by a “roof” of tree branches, and Jews eat their meals in it for seven days and nights, regarding the Sukkah as their temporary home. The festival of Sukkot takes place during the month of Tishrei, days 15 through 21.
Community leaders attending the event will include Joel Eisdorfer, Abe Friedman, Devorah Halberstam, and Chanina Sperling.
