“The Court of Appeals today unanimously rejected a challenge to New York’s ability to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.
“Although this is a major victory for equality, the court’s decision only highlights the fact that so many New York couples continue to be denied the full legal protections that come with a marriage license right here in our state. I am optimistic that will change soon.
“As we are on the cusp of passing marriage equality in the state Senate, it is clear that the momentum is on our side. My commitment to civil rights and equal justice for the LGBT community will never waver and I am confident we will make history by giving everyone in this state the freedom to marry.”
