"It is an historic day for New York and the nation now that President Obama has nominated Judge Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. A native of the South Bronx who has served as a federal judge, prosecutor and litigator, Judge Sotomayor is a brilliant, independent jurist who is uniquely qualified to serve on the highest court. Once she becomes the first Latina and only third woman to serve on the Court, Judge Sotomayor will bring a new, much-needed perspective to the bench. Soon the whole country will find out what we in New York already know – that Sonia Sotomayor is a fantastic judge whose integrity is unimpeachable and commitment to the rule of law is unwavering."
