Cease and Desist Zone Designation Hearing On May 29

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that the Department of State will be convening a public hearing in Northeast Queens regarding the re-adoption of the “cease-and-desist” zone designation for Queens County.

The public hearing will take place on May 29, 2009 at the Queens High School of Teaching (The Frank Padavan Campus at Glen Oaks) at 74-20 Commonwealth Boulevard in Bellerose starting at 7:00 pm.  

Under the cease-and-desist program, licensed real estate brokers and salespersons are prohibited from soliciting listings of residential properties from homeowners who appear on the list. All of Queens County is deemed a cease-and-desist zone by the New York Department of State. 

 “This is the perfect opportunity for homeowners who have been impacted by pesky and annoying solicitations from salespersons and real estate brokers to lend their voice in support of the cease-and-desist program,” Padavan said. “I urge any interested homeowner to attend the hearing on May 29 and help push for the re-adoption of  Queens as a cease-and-desist zone.” 

The rule establishing and governing a cease-and-desist zone for Queens County is scheduled to expire on August 1, 2009. At the conclusion of the public hearing, the Secretary of State will use all public testimony and evidence submitted by homeowners in determining the re-adoption of the cease-and-desist zone for Queens before the August 1st deadline.
