March 17, 2009
On Tuesday morning March 17th, New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) met with members of DC 37 Local 372 during their Lobby Day at the State Capitol. Padavan spoke about the importance of school based drug prevention programs. During his remarks, Padavan applauded Substance Abuse Prevention Intervention Specialists (SAPIS) who have consistently proven their worth and effectiveness in providing a safe school environment for our children and SPINS and SPARK workers who educate our youth on the dangers of drug and alcohol use. Senator Padavan also expressed his opposition to the $10 million in cuts proposed by Governor Paterson and $3 million in losses under the Deficit Reduction Plan that will undermine the effectiveness of these programs and place more than half of Local 372’s SAPIS workers at risk.
