New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that he will be partnering with the American-Italian Cancer Foundation in providing no-cost mammography screenings to residents of Northeast Queens on Saturday May 30.   The mobile mammography van will be outside of Senator Padavan’s District Office at 89-39 Gettysburg Street in Bellerose. There are no-out-of-pocket expenses and no copays for both insured and uninsured women.

“I am proud to once again partner with the American-Italian Cancer Foundation in bringing this important health program to the women of the 11th Senatorial District,” Padavan said. “Thanks to this event, women from throughout our community will have access to preventive care and vital information in order to help increase awareness about breast cancer.”

The screenings will take place on the American-Italian Cancer Foundation’s fully contained mobile mammography van. The mobile mammography van includes modern mammography equipment. The screening program includes professional services from Multi-Diagnostic Services, Inc. which includes clinical breast exam by trained professionals, mammogram performed by a certified x-ray technologist and radiological evaluations performed by Board Certified Radiologist.

"Women 40 and over must not forego their annual mammograms because early detection is the key to survival,” Addie Backlund, American-Italian Cancer Foundation Executive Director said. “In this dismal economic climate where women are losing their jobs and, consequently, their health insurance, AICF's mobile mammography program is more important than ever.  We make it as convenient as possible for women to get their mammograms, too, because we reach them in their communities, and we reach the NYC communities that are most in need of our services."

Women 40 and older and who have not had mammography in the past year are eligible. Appointments are limited and must be made in advance. All appointments will be made on a first come first serve basis. To schedule an appointment, please call Angela in Senator Padavan’s office at 718-343-0255.
