CORTLAND, 09/28/09 – Joined by area merchants and local community leaders, Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that the 2009-2010 state budget includes, at his request, a $12,500 senate grant toward improvements throughout downtown Cortland.
“The senate funding will help the Cortland Downtown Partnership protect the historic characteristics of this wonderful downtown district while at the same time opening the door to new businesses and visitors,” said Senator Seward. “
“We are extremely appreciative of Senator Seward’s efforts and support,” said Adam Megivern, executive director of the Cortland Downtown Partnership. “Streetscape improvements and other upgrades throughout the downtown district go a long way in attracting new businesses and instilling a sense of community pride in those who live and work here.”
“A vibrant, productive Main Street translates to overall economic growth and improved quality of life. Downtown Cortland is certainly headed in the right direction with the new clock tower, growing businesses and numerous festivals and events. I am confident these additional improvements will continue the upward trend,” Seward concluded.
