FRANKFORT, 08/18/09 – During the opening ceremony for the 2009 Herkimer County Fair, Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that the 2009-2010 state budget includes, at his request, a $15,000 senate grant toward a new pavilion on the fairgrounds.
“The senate funding will help this growing county fair showcase local agriculture and draw additional exhibitors and fair-goers to the grounds in Frankfort,” said Senator Seward. “Other community events held at the fairgrounds will also be able to take advantage of this new pavilion.”
The new 1,200 square foot pavilion will replace temporary rental tents, eliminating a costly expense and providing a safer structure for fair exhibitors and patrons alike.
“We are extremely appreciative of Senator Seward’s efforts and support,” said Richard Elthorp, president of the Herkimer County Fair Association. “This new pavilion will help the Herkimer County Fair continue to expand and allow for increased year-round use by other community groups.”
“County fairs bring communities together, allow residents and farmers to showcase their finest wares and boost the local economy. Even in a difficult budget year, it was important to deliver funding back to the community for important local services and programs that enhance the quality of life and generate tourism dollars,” Seward concluded.
Construction is expected to take place this fall.
