WEST WINFIELD, 10/05/09 – Joined by members of the Unadilla Forks Volunteer Fire Company, Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that the 2009-2010 state budget includes, at his request, $20,000 to provide for essential emergency communication upgrades and equipment improvements for local first responders.
“Volunteer departments like Unadilla Forks work hard to protect our community and are in need of the proper tools to get the job done,” said Senator Seward. “The senate funding will help enhance life saving services in rural Otsego County, improving response time to emergency scenes and providing better-quality care for those in need.”
The senate funding will help replace emergency vehicle radios, portable radios and pagers. The goal is to enhance communication before and during an emergency situation, improving response time and ensuring maximum communication on the scene.
"Improved communication equipment will benefit our first responders as well as protect our residents, homes and businesses. I am glad that the senate could assist," Seward concluded.
