Over $10,000 Raised!
Senator Jeff Klein and Community Join Forces to Raise Money for Victims of the Abruzzo Earthquake
BRONX, NY. Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) teamed up with the Morris Park Community Association and the Generoso Pope Foundation to raise money for victims of the Abruzzo earthquake which killed nearly 300 people, displacing 28,000 others into tent villages and other temporary shelters.
Dozens of Bronx and Westchester residents turned out on Friday night to dance and donate to the cause. Even the Consul General of Italy, Francesco Maria Talo, made a special appearance to thank the community for their concern.
"This earthquake struck not only the heart of Italy, but the hearts of Italian Americans throughout New York. A tragedy of this magnitude is felt around the world and we must do our part as human beings to reach out to those in need." said Klein.
By night’s end, over $10,000 had been raised. Klein’s office will continue to accept donations to be sent to the Italian Red Cross. For more information, call: 800-718-2039
