March 5, 2009
Senator Kenneth P. LaValle today announced that the Riverhead Free Library, the Hampton Library of Bridgehampton, and the Westhampton Free Library have been awarded funding under the New York State Public Library Construction Grant Program. The grants awarded through this program are supported by a 2008 capital fund appropriation for the construction and renovation of public libraries and library systems in New York State.
Public library construction grants help local libraries and library systems build new libraries, update facilities, meet new energy standards, and make other improvements necessary to meet the community’s needs.
The Riverhead Free Library will receive $40,000 to assist with the installation of photovoltaic panels.
The Hampton Library of Bridgehampton will put a $165,663 grant toward site and building preparation work for complete rehabilitation of the existing building and the addition of new space, as well as the installation of geothermal wells and heating and cooling pipes.
The Westhampton Free Library will complete the installation of a geothermal heating system and photovoltaic system for the new library building with their $77,194 award.
"I am pleased that our public libraries are taking advantage of state programs that will help them to move forward with plans to improve and enhance the library experience for local patrons," said Senator LaValle. "Our public libraries are invaluable community resources that deserve to have their mission supported in every way possible."
