I am certain that many of you are frustrated and angry to have witnessed the battle in Albany between political power and the public good. Having served in the Senate for thirty-two years, I have great respect for this Legislative body and have been dismayed over the events of the past few weeks.
The need for the reform was made evident when this year’s budget was crafted and passed by three Democrat leaders from New York City who gave little or no consideration to the needs of Long Island and other suburban and rural regions of our state. The budget took away homeowners’ STAR rebate checks, slapped businesses with a payroll tax, protected convicted drug offenders, and created new taxes, fees, and fare hikes that will hurt taxpayers.
Please be assured that I have attended every session fully prepared to do business and protect the interests of the First Senate District. I am committed to reducing property taxes, cutting wasteful spending, and creating high paying jobs. I will work every day to make this vision a reality and build a stronger and more prosperous New York. I am hopeful that, in the coming days, we will reach an agreement that will allow us to complete the people’s work.
