Senator Lavalle Opposes Local Governments Consolidation Measure
Kenneth P. LaValle
June 5, 2009
Senator Kenneth P. LaValle today announced that he opposed a recently introduced measure that would allow for the consolidation or dissolution of certain local governments. “While the objective of the bill is laudable, its provisions would negatively impact many of the communities I represent,” said Senator LaValle.
“Long Island homeowners are struggling to pay their property taxes and are looking for tax savings that make sense,” continued Senator LaValle. “I commend Attorney General Cuomo for his effort to reduce multiple layers of government with the goal of lowering real property taxes. However, the devil is in the details.
“In reviewing the proposed legislation and speaking with residents throughout my district, I decided I could not support this measure,” concluded Senator LaValle.
