SENATOR PARKER AND LOCAL COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TEAM UP TO HELP SUPPORT BROOKLYN’S SMALL BUSINESSES
Giving Small Businesses Tools and Counseling to Area Business Owners
Brooklyn, NY- Several visitors including business owners visited Senator Parker’s district office for his summer series “Small Business Assistance Day” event. The event concludes Senator Parker’s free summer constituent outreach of events. Attendees had the opportunity to gain information about small business ownership and meet with local community representatives and entrepreneurs. One-on-one discussions were held to help participants better understand the challenges in developing and growing a small business as well as loan programs.
“In these tough economic times, this event is even more critical to small businesses among Central Brooklyn,” said Senator Parker. “We’re here today in partnership with local community organizations who are willing to help small businesses gain access to much-needed assistance and who can help them adapt to their plan in today’s current economic downturn.”
At today’s event, representatives provided brief overviews of various lending programs and other initiatives to help small business maintain and grow their businesses in this tough economic climate. Materials on small business counseling, obtaining a business loan, writing a business plan, meeting legal requirements, small business energy saving advice, and jump starting a small business were also discussed. Officials from, CAMBA, Con-Edison, ACCION USA, WIBO (Workshop in Business Opportunities) were all on board.
In his remarks, Mr. Paisley Demby from CAMBA encourages a group of first time business owners to do as much research for assistance in loans and credit adjustments.
"This is your chance to get the most information for you and your business," Demby said. "You have the people with the real answers right here ready to answer your questions. I encourage you to make use of this wonderful event," he added.
