SENATOR PARKER RECOGNIZES BROOKLYN’S HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP
2009 RISING STAR PROGRAM AWARDS OVER $1,000 IN SCHOLARSHIP GRANTS
Brooklyn, NY- Senator Parker proudly announced the recipients of the 2009 Rising Star community leaders award. The finalists were chosen for their commitment to community service, leadership skills, and academic achievement. Finalists received a one-time award of $250 that can be used towards the students’ pursuit of higher education. Overall, the finalists represented the best in Brooklyn’s education and stood out from hundreds of student applicants.
“Today’s young people are our future community leaders,” said Senator Parker.” “We welcome the opportunity to recognize the commitment and dedication that these young people continue to demonstrate in their communities and at their schools. These students are focused, dedicated to excellence and well-rounded. I congratulate and wish them all well in their future endeavors.”
The award recipients were selected by a committee consisting of representatives from their schools along with staff members at Senator Parker’s office. Applications were taken during the month of May and final recommendations were sent to Senator Parker by the committee. This year’s winner were; Max Charles, Tiana Walden, Shiniqua Baker, Marline Pamphile, Angelita Pierre-Noel, Diandra Anderson, Kino Quashie, and Jeffrey Mercedes.
The schools earning Senator Parker’s 2009 Rising Star Award were:
· Midwood High School
· Erasmus High School
· Tilden High School
· Murrow High School
