SENATOR PARKER’S URGES COMMUNITY TO DONATE BLOOD AND CHECK STATE UNCLAIMED FUNDS
Fighting blood donor shortages, Brooklyn lawmaker brings Blood mobile to the block
Brooklyn, NY- Central Brooklyn community residents looking to claim their stake of the New York State’s excessive unclaimed funds visited the district office of Senator Parker on Friday, July 17, 2009. The Brooklyn lawmaker, in partnership with the New York State Comptroller’s, who holds the unclaimed funds for New York State, and the New York Blood Center, hosted an open house and blood drive for constituents. Eager residents and visitors who found their names in a database of were able to fill out a claim form to retrieve their money.
“These events are important for our community because it not only offers resident important information; it raises community awareness for the need of blood donations. I’m always excited for my constituents who can benefit from hidden treasures, especially during these challenging economic times!” said Senator Parker. “We have a unique ability in State government to facilitate many worthwhile events. New York Blood Center (NYBC) and its divisions in Manhattan, Long Island, Hudson Valley, Brooklyn / Staten Island, and New Jersey constantly faces challenges during the summer month to maintain an adequate and safe blood supply for hospital patients. Volunteers and residents were on call to give the gift of life to those in need.
