STATEMENT FROM  STATE SENATOR KEVIN PARKER

ON THE 21^st ANNIVERSARY OF WORLD AIDS DAY

21^ST SENATE DISTRICT

“Today as the world turns its focus on the pandemic we know as HIV/AIDS,  I call on us as a community to address the devastating impacts of this disease in mutual cooperation and with committed effort. In the past quarter century, this disease has touched millions of lives worldwide, but with alarming rates of increased cases in and around my Senate district in Central Brooklyn.

There is a lot more we can all do; I share the belief our individual effort and personal responsibility for our actions, our health and our lives is primary. Therefore, as we engage in this dialogue throughout the month of December, I encourage us to focus on issues of education and prevention with the same intensity as we do testing and treatment.

 On the 21st Anniversary of World AIDS Day,  I recommit myself first as an individual to take personal responsibility by being tested as I have done every year. Then, as an elected official, I commit to doing all within my power to support individuals and organizations further educate and empower our communities.”
