Senator Golden: Program Cleans Streets of Graffiti at Almost 600 Locations

     Brooklyn - State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) is announcing that the program he has funded to fight graffiti in his district, City Solve , has removed graffiti at almost 600 locations since the program began in the neighborhood over two months ago.

     Senator Marty Golden officially introduced the program, which he has funded in the amount of $50,000 for one year, at a press conference held in May. Speaking at the press conference calling graffiti an “eye sore”, Senator Golden vowed to the community that, “We are about to enter a period of zero tolerance for graffiti in this community. Graffiti damages property and overall ruins the quality of life.  We will not stand for it and this new program will be my partner in eradicating graffiti from our neighborhood.”

     Senator Golden has received over 90 requests for graffiti removal from the local residents since the program was announced, and at Senator Golden’s request, City Solve has focused on cleaning commercial avenues including: 1) 5th Avenue (93 locations cleaned), 2) 3rd Avenue (75 locations cleaned), 3) Quentin Road (51 locations cleaned), 4) 18th Avenue (119 locations cleaned) and 5) 86th Street (128 locations cleaned).

     The City Solve Program surveyed the community in May and began to remove graffiti from store fronts, gates, and brick walls. The program both cleans and follows up on each location where graffiti was removed for maintenance.  

     Each month, the program vehicles drive through the community and conduct an inspection, so to return where graffiti has reappeared for removal purposes.  Residents wishing to report the existence of graffiti on properties can request they be cleaned by calling Senator Golden’s office at (718) 238-6044 or via e-mail at golden@senate.state.ny.us
