Senator Golden Requests Traffic Study on Shore Road

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District), recently requested that the Department of Transportation conduct a traffic study on Shore Road between 90^th Street and 3rd Avenue to consider the installation of a traffic calming device along this part of Shore Road.

"As soon as this issue was brought to my attention at my annual senior fair, I felt it was imperative to contact the Department of Transportation. This stretch of Shore Road cannot be unsafe, especially for the children, families and senior citizens that frequent this area. It is my belief that an additional traffic light would impede automobile and motorcycle drivers from exceeding speed limits on a regular basis," explained Senator Marty Golden.

Senator Golden noted that this stretch of Shore Road is home to local residents, including hundreds of senior citizens residing at Shore Hill. In addition to this, as seen in the past, reckless drivers on Shore Road have also posed danger to the students of Fontbonne Hall Academy, when arriving to and from school grounds. Shore Road is also on the routes of local and express buses.

"It is important to make sure that residents can enjoy the beauty of our neighborhood, especially the scenic views of Shore Road without having to worry about hazardous traffic conditions. I intend on doing everything I can to make this neighborhood as safe as possible," Senator Golden added.

In response to Senator Golden’s request, the Department of Transportation stated that the Department’s Division of Traffic Planning will conduct the study of this area of Shore Road. The results of the study will be available by late September 2009.
