Senator Golden Visits Local Train Stations and Discusses Service

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) this week focused attention on train service serving his district through station visits and discussions with New York City Transit Authority management and New York straphangers.  Senator Golden met with the managers of both the R and N train lines and visited stations on both lines as well.

     Senator Marty Golden met with Peter Velasquez, the R line manager, and rode the train from 95 ^th  Street and 4 ^th  Avenue to the Bay Ridge Avenue station. Senator Golden additionally met with Joe Ragusa, the N line manager, at the New Utrecht Avenue station at 63 ^rd  Street, and discussed D line service as well.

     Senator Golden stated, “It is important that I maintain a dialogue with both the commuters and the New York City Transit Authority to discuss service on our trains.  We must continue to work towards enhancing service and the conditions of both our stations and subway cars. In my visit to the various stations, I had the opportunity to speak to commuters about current service and my office will continue to address the concerns.”

     Senator Golden discussed weekend and evening service schedule delays and the regular leaks in the Bay Ridge Avenue station, among other issues. Furthermore, transit officials provided an update on station improvements that have been included in the next Capital Plan.  The MTA recently accepted bids for the construction work slated to begin at the 86 ^th  Street and 4 ^th  Avenue station which Senator Golden allocated $2 million. The construction project should start in January, 2010.

     Senator Golden concluded, “I plan to continue to regularly visit train stations and bus stops to monitor service. My office continues to address the concerns had by those residents who rely on our buses and trains in an effort to provide the best level of service.”
