State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon) joined members of the West Islip Beautification Society at the new West Islip Memorial Park on Beach Street near the West Islip Marina. The Memorial Park, which was partly funded by a state grant that Senator Johnson obtained for the West Islip Beautification Society, is dedicated to the men and women who lost their lives in Iraq. The bench that the group is pictured standing behind is adorned with a plaque inscribed : “In honor of the service men and women lost in Iraq.”
“This park is a beautiful and lasting tribute to the brave men and women who lost their lives serving our great nation,” said Senator Johnson. “It is a project that I am proud to have been able to support and be involved with.”
Senator Johnson has long supported the efforts of the West Islip Beautification Society. In addition to securing state funding for the Memorial Park, the Senator previously secured a state grant for the West Islip Streetscape program, which funded the installation of antique style street lamps along Higbie Lane.
The West Islip Beautification Society is a non-profit organization that was established in 1976 by Dorothe Karwoski to make West Islip a uniquely landscaped hamlet attractive to residents, businesses and visitors.
