McDonald Honors New York State Fallen Firefighters at Memorial Ceremony

Albany- Senator Roy McDonald attended the New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony on October 6^th where local fireman David P. Meron Sr. from the Hoosick Falls, Pittstown, and Raymertown Volunteer Fire Departments was recognized for his heroism and bravery.

Meron was born on September 22, 1949 in Troy. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968, and served as a jet engine technician eventually earning the rank of tech sergeant. He was honorably discharged from military service in 1990. As a civilian he worked for McDonald-Douglas as a contractor in Saudi Arabia. Meron was found unresponsive and unconscious after performing his duties as a firefighter on July 20, 2008.

“David Meron is an illustration of the everyday heroes of our communities that put their lives on the line to protect their fellow neighbors” McDonald continued, “we need to always remember and recognize these great men and women who protect our communities and save lives during emergencies.”

David Meron Sr. is survived by his wife, Linda Schmigel Meron, his son Staff Sgt. David Meron Jr. U.S. Air Force, his brother Richard Meron; stepchildren Stacy McCarthy, Ashley Bacon and Taylor Bacon, along with a grandchild Ryan McCarthy.
