On October 8, 2009 at 9AM, New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) and the New York Hispanic Clergy Organization will launch a campaign to encourage all Hispanics to be counted in the 2010 Census and to oppose any effort to undermine the census count by boycotting it. This meeting will be held at the Christian Community Church located at 1437 Longfellow Avenue in The Bronx (between Jennings and Freeman Streets) in The Bronx.
Also attending this meeting are: Ligia Jaquez, Deputy Regional Director, Bureau of the Census; Rafael Dominguez, Partnership Coordinator, Bureau of the Census; and Lillian Rodriguez, President, Hispanic Federation; and Angelo Falcon, President of the Institute
for Puerto Rican Policy.
“It is essential that we overcome any effort to discourage Hispanics from being counted in the upcoming census count. Census results determine the amount of representation and funding our communities receive and need,” stated Senator Rev. Diaz. “No one should try to take any of that away from our communities or shortchange us - especially by using immigration reform as an excuse.”
The press is welcome.
