New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) will convene the first New York State Senate Aging Advisory Council on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 from 10:00AM – 2:00PM at the Council of Senior Centers and Services located at 49 West 45 Street in New York City.
Those expected to attend this event: Greg Olsen, Deputy Director, New York State Office for the Aging; Mae Carpenter, Commissioner Westchester County Department of Senior Services; Bobbie Sackman, Council of Senior Centers and Services; Beth Finkel, AARP; Michael Adams, SAGE; Lou-Ellen Barkan, Alzhiemer’s Association of NYC; Ann Marie Cook, LIFESPAN; Nancy Miller, VISIONS; Justin Cunningham, Statewide Senior Action Council; Laura Cameron, NYSAAAA; Pia Scarfo and Barbara Cooper,- Institute for Puerto Rican and Hispanic Elderly.
According to Senator Rev. Diaz, Chair of the Senate Aging Committee, “I greatly appreciate the time and effort the members of this working group are making to be sure that we in the Senate hear from the actual service providers about ways we can improve legislation and consider how we may be able to assist New York’s aging population. I look forward to the various presentations, such as how we may be able to assist seniors paying bills, and am grateful that with this Council, we will continue to improve state-wide efforts to promote respect for the inherent dignity of New York’s senior citizens.”
The Aging Advisory Council was created by Senator Rev. Diaz when he became chair of the Aging Committee. It is comprised of government officials, advocates and providers, and will provide the New York State Aging Committee with much needed advice regarding improving the lives of senior citizens.
