October 14, 2009
New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) fired out a letter to New York State Inspector General Joseph Fisch to demand an immediate review of the recent sexual assault on a prison inmate who wrote the Senator pleading for help.
Senator Rev. Diaz stated: "These charges are serious, and require immediate attention and review. If the charges are true, I expect that those responsible as well as their supervisors will be disciplined to the full extent of the law. Incarcerated women and men are not sent to these facilities to be abused. As a legislator, it is my duty to protect the basic human and civil rights of all New Yorkers, including those in correctional facilities."
A copy of Senator Rev. Diaz's letter to Inspector General Joseph Hisch and a copy of the inmate's letter to the Senator are included. The names of the inmate and the alleged abusers have been blocked out for legal reasons.
