On Monday, September 14, 2009 at 10:30am, New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) will protest the anticipated closing of the Soundview Station Post Office, located at 829 Soundview Avenue (at the corner or Rosedale and Soundview Avenues) in The Bronx.
Senator Rev. Diaz, Chair of the Senate Aging Committee, will be joining with senior citizens, veterans and Soundview residents to protest this expected closing and to highlight the hardship it will create to the residents of the area.
According to Senator Rev. Diaz: “Any plan to close the Soundview Post Office will impose a serious inconvenience to senior citizens and families who reside in this part of my Senatorial district. The United States Postal Service should not attempt to balance their budget and reduce their deficit by closing post offices in poor communities that rely upon first class mail to write to relatives, send for packages, and claim certified mail and other important government notices. Many residents in this community do not have the same options as those who reside in more affluent communities and easily rely upon Fed Ex and UPS.”
A final decision whether or not to close the Soundview Post Office is expected in October.
