New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) shared his concerns about recent warnings for parents about the dangers of "Cordial de Monell para la Dentición", a locally purchased product that soothes teething babies.
Senator Rev. Diaz stated, “It is important for parents to know that because of its serious and dangerous side effects on babies ‘Cordial de Monell para la Dentición’ is illegal in the United States.”
"Cordial de Monell para la Dentición" contains potassium bromide, betula oil, oil of anise and a clear syrup base. Babies who are given "Cordial de Monell para la Dentición" have had side effects that include sedation, trouble breathing, low blood pressure, coma and potassium bromide poisoning.
Senator Rev. Diaz encourages concerned parents to call (212) POISONS or (212) 764-7667, for English, and 212-VENENOS or (212) 836-3667, for Spanish. Both lines operate 24 hours a day.
