Saland secured $41,114 in funding for technology upgrades at school
Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) will be honored by Ichabod Crane Central School District on Tuesday, May 26th at 11 AM for securing a $41,114 grant in last year’s State Budget to upgrade school technology.
In conjunction with its current technology budget, the district used the grant to purchase fifty desk computers, five 77” interactive Smart Boards, an LCD projector and related peripheral equipment. Students and teachers are already benefitting from the use of these high-tech tools.
“Technology is progressing at high-speed and students need to keep up,” said Senator Saland. “Given the fiscal strains on school budgets, it is difficult, however, for schools to make sure their students have the benefits of using the latest computer equipment without negatively impacting local property taxpayers. I am pleased I was able to secure this grant to help Ichabod Crane Central School District achieve its technology goals without burdening local taxpayers.”
James P. Dexter, Ichabod Crane Central School District Superintendent said, “On behalf of the children, parents and staff, I would like to thank Senator Saland for securing this financial support for the district, above and beyond what we have received in state aid in the 2008-2009 school year. Thanks to the Senator’s efforts, we have been able to purchase and install a significant amount of technology and other equipment that is used daily by our teachers and staff. In particular, the new technology is helping our students to attain the skills necessary to compete in today’s competitive workforce. The Senator is a strong proponent of high quality public education, and we appreciate his willingness to work with our district to help us meet our ambitious goals for student achievement, while minimizing the impact to our local taxpayers.”
Senator Saland will join Superintendent Dexter on May 26th to see how the equipment purchased with the grant Saland secured is being used, and talk to students about the new technology.
