Buffalo, NY – New York State Senator Antoine M. Thompson (D-Parts of Erie & Niagara Counties), will host a Saint Joseph’s Day Table at the Mahoney State Office Building at 65 Court Street in Buffalo on March 19, 2010 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
In Sicily, during great drought and famine, the people made a promise to Saint Joseph that if the drought would be lifted, they would be indebted to him. The lords of the manor (landowners) promised to open their homes and serve the poor in gratitude to Saint Joseph for his intercession, hence, the tradition of the Saint Joseph’s Day Table. Today the tradition is kept alive in homes as well as restaurants; continuing with a celebratory feast, while requesting donations targeted to a specific benefactor/charity.
Everyone is invited to attend to celebrate Saint Joseph’s Day and talk with Senator Thompson.
