Buffalo, NY – Prostate Cancer strikes one in every four men and New York State Senator Antoine Thompson (D-parts of Erie & Niagara counties) is working to bring awareness to the disease. The Senator is hosting a Prostate Cancer Awareness march this Saturday, September 4th at Delaware Park.
Senator Thompson and Roswell Park Cancer Institute are encouraging men and their families to join the march and learn the facts about prostate cancer. Studies show the disease forms in the prostate and has no noticeable symptoms in the early stages. It’s also the second leading cause of cancer death among African American men.
Men age 40 or older should talk with their physician about the pros and cons of being screened annually for the disease. Doctors will be on-site to conduct free screenings, which consist of a blood test and prostate exam. Survivors of prostate cancer will also be on hand to share their stories.
